Well, winter was coming on anyway, Fallis didn’t plan to be riding the bike for a while, but he did come around to check on it. At the time, Conley had a one-man shop, so Fallis started hanging around, helping out, and soon these in-laws started talking about the custom work they could on Fallis’ 800 Vulcan. Fallis wanted it to be something comfortable, fun to ride, but not too radical.
Next thing you know, Fallis is working on his bike at Coyote Customs and helping Conley with other bikes. Fallis, who does fabrication, has molded in the neck, frame and swingarm. He’s stretched the Vulcan’s tank, smoothed over its lower seams and filled in where the speedo used to be. The bike soon has powdercoated wheels and brakes, and the guys have added those 8-inch risers and drag bar. Then came the aftermarket fenders and taillight.
Some people fill out a resume to get a job, or show a portfolio. In this case, the Vulcan turned out to be Fallis’ portfolio. At some point during the process, Conley was so impressed that he offered Fallis a job.
This was more than two years ago. So, how’s it working out with these two in-laws working together? “He’s my main guy,” Conley says of Fallis. And because things are going so well, Coyote Customs will soon be moving to a bigger shop.
Just think… it all started with a broken clutch cable.
